Elk Grove replacing streetlights with energy efficient LEDs

Elk Grove is replacing its 10,000 streetlights with energy efficient LED lamps that will save the city about $400,000 a year. On Monday, crews started changing out the city's high-pressure sodium bulbs with the more efficient lamps. The new lamps range from 38 watts to 130 watts and replace bulbs that range from 100 watts to 300 watts. The city tested the bulbs in residential neighborhoods to see what kind of bulbs neighbors wanted.
